Natural stone is so versatile that it can be used just about anywhere in your home. As with a lot of things though, just because you can do something doesn’t always mean that you should.
There are some places in a home that are a better fit for natural stone than others. Here are three the top our list:
Kitchen
Natural stone like granite or marble is a must-have for many homebuyers when it comes to kitchen countertops. Beyond countertops, natural stone is a great fit for your kitchen backsplash or even the kitchen floor.
Backsplashes use much smaller pieces combined into a mosaic style. This allows for nearly endless combinations of colors and styles. Natural stone floors are incredibly durable and even help keep allergens out of your home.
Fireplace
No matter where you live, chances are you can benefit from a fireplace. There’s nothing like curling up with a book or movie for a relaxing evening or afternoon. Natural stone’s versatility allows fireplaces to be constructed inside or outside depending on your preference and the climate where you live.
If you want your fireplace to have a more modern feel, think about granite or marble. If a more cozy look is what you’re after, consider travertine or quartzite. For something between the two, look to quartzite or slate.
Outdoor Space
Finally, natural stone’s durability makes it an excellent choice for outdoor use. It’s easy to maintain and will stand up to whatever the weather brings its way.
Make a path out of stone to keep your feet cool while walking around the pool or event to and from the mailbox. Your pets will appreciate it, too, when their paws stay cool year-round.
Another thing to consider is using stacked natural stones for outdoor retaining walls. Putting one in place is not quite as simple as laying some stones on top of each other; be sure to do your homework or hire a contractor to help with installation.
