DESCRIPTION
Soapstone is a metamorphic rock composed primarily of talc, thereby making it relatively soft and easy to carve. Its other physical properties are that it is nonporous and nonabsorbent, resistant to acids and alkalis, and heat resistant. It absorbs heat and radiates it slowly. In building it is used for countertops and in laboratories, for sinks, as fireplace liners and hearths, facing stone, and as wall and floor tiles.
